This facetious and delightfully burlesque setting comes from a Saturday Night Live broadcast on January 14, 1984. The episode featured a fictional Democratic primary where viewers could vote for their candidate. At the end of the vote, ZZ Top won and became the newly-elected Democratic Party candidates, making the slogan 'ZZ Top For President' an anthem of the first order.
This frame was created at the time of this episode of Saturday Night Live. It uses fake campaign tools to help ZZ Top win the presidential race. These included sweatshirts, stickers and flyers. This amusing and quirky testimonial comes directly from Dusty Hill's collection. The ZZ Top bassist enjoyed framing and showcasing the artifacts that accompanied his career, and this is a fine example.
In the middle of an election campaign, who better than ZZ Top for President?
